As Christmas approaches, my home is decorated in a restrained and controlled way for Christmas. Those who know me know that I am more of a minimalist as a decorator. My interior design consists of thoughtful details, in which I always highlight decorative objects that are appropriate for the season. That is why it is wonderful that I have a second home, Sasu's store, where I can play boldly with colors and patterns.
This year, we decided to create a few examples of Christmas decorations and interior design in our Porvoo store with different color themes: green Christmas , blue Christmas , pink Christmas and classic red Christmas . Each of these themes offers its own unique atmosphere and the opportunity to bring out the personality of your home and the spirit of Christmas.
Broken shades and red!
I have long been a fan of muted tones, and the combinations of green, pink and natural tones in particular have always felt like home. For me, a green Christmas reminds me of a peaceful forest landscape, where natural materials and dim lights create a harmonious whole. A blue Christmas, on the other hand, brings a touch of northern coldness and at the same time a surprisingly stylish and modern atmosphere. A pink Christmas is light and playful, and it is especially suitable for those who want to bring a little bolder tones to the celebration.

But this year I noticed a surprising phenomenon – red was my favorite color of all! A classic red Christmas brings to mind childhood memories, traditional decorations, and the cozy warmth associated with candles, mulled wine, and the splendor of a Christmas tree. Red has never been my favorite color for decorating, but this year its intensity and warmth speak to me more than ever before.
Decorations and elements related to the red theme bring energy and a sense of celebration to your home. You can combine different red decorations on the tree, such as glass balls, fabric bows and cinnamon sticks, which create both a traditional and modern look. Red pillows and blankets in an otherwise calmly decorated living room bring softness and invite you to relax. Gold and red candles are also great in the middle of the dining table to create a warm atmosphere.
Red is a classic Christmas color for good reason. It represents joy, warmth, and love—the very things that Christmas brings. This year, I’m deliberately letting red take over my home, and I hope it brings just as much joy and inspiration to others.
Which theme will you choose this Christmas? Would classic red be your favorite, or would muted tones and more modern combinations appeal? Whatever your choice, the most important thing is to create a Christmas atmosphere in your home that will make you and your loved ones happy.
A joyful and inspiring Christmas to everyone!
