Copper-tone solar lantern | Ø30 x 33.7 cm | Mandela Jar

€39,00

Solar lanterns will return to our range in early April 2025.

LUMIZ Lampion solar lanterns decorate your garden and terrace. You can leave the rainproof lanterns outside all summer without worry. The lantern light turns on automatically at dusk and turns off at dawn.

Create a personal atmosphere in your own garden by combining different colors, sizes and shapes. The lanterns have a wonderful lace-like surface, through which light filters through the slits in the dark, bringing out the patterns.

The lantern is made of Tyvek, which is also used to make protective overalls. The material is flexible and very durable. The lantern folds flat for winter storage.

The solar lantern needs daylight to charge the battery optimally. The lantern also requires batteries and comes with rechargeable AAA batteries.

Frequently asked questions about solar lanterns

How does the Lumiz solar lantern work?

The Lumiz lantern is powered by the sun. During the day, the solar panel collects sunlight and charges the battery. At dusk, the lantern automatically turns on and turns off in the morning.

Why doesn't the light turn on in the lantern?

If the light does not turn on at dusk, use the checklist below to determine the fault.

  • A transparent or black plastic strip has been removed from the battery compartment. The battery compartment is on the opposite side of the solar cell, next to the LED light.
  • The battery compartment has been opened and checked to ensure no plastic strip remains inside the battery compartment.
  • The plastic cover protecting the solar panel has been removed.
  • The solar panel is facing the sky.
  • The lantern is positioned so that the solar panel receives direct sunlight for at least 4 hours a day. Please note that in autumn, the sun shines very low, and special attention should be paid to the placement of the lantern.
  • The battery acting as the power source is over a year old and should be replaced with a new rechargeable battery.

Why is placement important?

If the solar panel does not receive enough direct sunlight, the battery acting as the lantern's power source will not charge properly, and the lantern's LED light will not illuminate as expected in the evening.

The best result is achieved when the solar panel receives 4–6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Can the lantern be used on a balcony or under a canopy?

Yes, but the solar panel needs direct sunlight. A bright spot is not enough. Balcony roofs or walls can prevent charging.

Solution: you can charge the lantern during the day in a sunny spot and move it to your desired location for the evening.

Battery-operated light modules are available for covered and indoor spaces. The battery-operated light module is replaced with the solar cell module.

Does the solar panel charge through glass?

Yes, but not at full power. Charging slows down significantly when light passes through window glass.

How long does the lantern stay lit?

The lantern typically stays lit for 6–8 hours. The burning time depends on the sunlight received during the day and the outside temperature.

Can the lantern be kept outdoors?

Yes. The Lumiz solar lantern is resistant to rain and varying weather conditions.

However, we do not recommend leaving the lantern in winter storms or under a heavy snow load. The hanging mechanism is not designed to withstand the weight of snow.

Can the lantern be used in winter?

The solar cell module can withstand temperatures down to approximately –15 °C. As sunlight is not sufficient in Finland to charge the battery, we recommend bringing the lantern indoors for winter. During winter storage, the battery should be removed.

An optional battery module is available that withstands frost and allows the lantern to be kept outdoors on a sheltered porch or balcony even in winter.

Does the lantern withstand heat?

Yes, but in hot temperatures above 40 °C, the solar cell module stops charging the battery.

Battery and its replacement

Lumiz uses a rechargeable AAA NiMH battery (1.2 V, approximately 600–900 mAh). The battery is replaceable, and we recommend replacing it approximately every 12–15 months.

Always use a rechargeable NiMH battery in the solar cell module.

Can the lantern be placed in a tree or bush?

Yes. In mid-summer, the lantern may receive enough light even if it is partly shaded by leaves. In spring and autumn, placement is more important – ensure direct sunlight.

Is the light output the same in all lanterns?

Yes, but the size and pattern affect how the light appears. Small lanterns may seem brighter than large ones.

Accessory: battery module

The battery-operated light module allows for use indoors and in covered spaces. The module is controlled by a remote control, which also allows you to set a timer for the light (1–4 h).

Maintenance and cleaning instructions

The battery's efficiency slowly decreases with charging and discharging. Replace the AAA battery at the latest when you notice the lantern's light output fading. The battery should be rechargeable. By replacing the battery every 12 months, you can continue to enjoy LUMIZ to the fullest!

Clean the solar panel with a soft damp cloth as needed to ensure that solar energy charges the battery at maximum efficiency.

Tyvek material can be wiped with a soft damp cloth if necessary.

When storing the lantern for the winter, we recommend removing the battery from the solar module. If the battery were to leak during storage, it would damage the electronic components.
