William Morris (1834-1896) was a British textile designer, poet, artist and social activist who became one of the most influential figures of the Victorian era. He was a key founder of the Arts and Crafts movement, which emphasized traditional craftsmanship and rejected the mass-production methods of the Industrial Revolution.

Founded in 1861, Morris & Co. was Morris' design firm, creating beautiful handmade wallpapers, textiles, furniture and stained glass. The company became famous for its intricate designs inspired by nature - flowing vines, birds, flowers and medieval motifs. Morris believed that well-designed, handmade objects could enhance people's lives and bring beauty to everyday spaces.
